Originally spelled, “Bradentown,” this area was first discovered in 1539 by the famous Spanish expedition led by Hernando De Sota. Later established in 1842, and finally incorporated in 1903, the town was named after Dr. Joseph Braden whose fort-like home served as a refuge for early settlers during the Seminole Indian attacks.
