Originally spelled, “Bradentown,” this area was first discovered in 1539 by the famous Spanish expedition led by Hernando De Sota. Later established in 1842, and finally incorporated in 1903, the town was named after Dr. Joseph Braden whose fort-like home served as a refuge for early settlers during the Seminole Indian attacks. Today, Bradenton is the largest city of the Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area and is home to over 50,000 residents.

Residents of Bradenton can enjoy fishing, boat ramps, dog parks, and other outdoor recreational activities at any one of the 10 local parks, including the newest addition, Bradenton Riverwalk, so named because it’s 1.5 mile land stretches between the Green and DeSoto bridges along the banks of the Manatee River.
